About

The lab, the lens behind it, and the person running it.

Collapse Index Labs

"collapse happens when a system preserves the thing that sounds final and loses the thing that could make it true again."

Collapse Index is a lens, not a metric. It asks whether a confident, stable-looking answer is still joined to the thing that made it true. It began as a metric, and the metric broke when the mechanism it tracked was ablated. The lens is what survived, and it runs through all of the work here: evals that check their own instruments, memory that keeps its sources, and HOBO, a model built to say how sure it is.

Alex Kwon

Independent researcher, and the person behind Collapse Index Labs. Before research, I co-founded a specialty food brand and ran its operations for eleven years, into more than 1,200 retail doors. Supply chains taught me the habit this work runs on: nothing enters clean until the paperwork says so.

My paper Reference, Retrieve, Resolve was accepted at New in ML @ NeurIPS 2026 as a poster. The rest of the papers and their code are on Research.
